Why I Love Ninja Warrior

Ninja WarriorFellow nerds!

Lend me your ears.  If you don’t have your DVR set to record G4′s Ninja Warrior on a daily basis (weekdays at 6:30PM), you are doing yourself a disservice and you should be shot.  Seriously.  I’m going to assume you’re new to Earth and don’t know what the eff Ninja Warrior is. Picture this: American Gladiators suddenly becomes a quality program, turns Japanese, learns ninja moves, and then makes sweet love to MXC.  Take the Eliminator, add acid, and you have the obstacle course on Ninja Warrior.  Put 100 of the world’s best athletes, fighters, and gymnasts in a competition to conquer it, and only give them one chance to do it.  Six to Midnight.

These are some of the strongest, most physically fit S.O.B.’s you will ever see. Want to see efficiency?  Look at these guys – they all have like 4% body fat.  Want to see crazy feats of strength? Done.  Crazy Japanese announcers? Done. Obstacles courses that look absolutely impossible until you watch the competitors (Especially Nagano, my new hero) absolutely destroy it in a few minutes? Done.

Here’s a video of american Levi Meeuwenberg trying out stage 3.

I’ve been watching Ninja Warrior for probably three years now, and I just can’t get enough.  I think I could watch people attempt stage 3 all day and not get bored.  Because of this show,  I’ve worked more pull-ups and back exercises into my workout routine in the rare case that an invitation just falls onto my lap.  It only happens twice a year, and only 100 competitors are allowed to participate.  I’m thinking of moving to the jungles of Burma and studying with some monks for a decade, and then hope that Ninja Warrior is still rocking the airwaves.

I’d like to think if I ever make it onto Ninja Warrior, I’ll considered my life’s work done.  Time to go do more pull-ups.

    Wow indeed.

This show is amazing on so many levels. I'm just constantly in a state of
awe watching them navigate the 3rd stage.
