Why Don’t You Just TELL Me What You Want?

Bonus points if you picked up on the Seinfeld reference in the title.  Also, don’t ask me why I picked a picture of a four-armed action figure.  He just looked cool.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, but Nerd Fitness has really jumped up in size in the past few weeks and I wanted to reach out to all the new readers.

Hello Art of Manliness Readers

Welcome to Nerd Fitness!  I think Brett and Kate run a fantastic site over at Art of Manliness, and I love their angle on bringing some actual manliness back into the modern man (who is pretty much a pansy compared to our ancestors).  I can’t thank them enough for the kind words.  While you’re checking out the site, please read my free E-book, A Newbie’s Guide to Fitness, and let me know what you think.  If you decide to stick around, feel free to shoot me an email at Steve@NerdFitness.com – let me know who you are and how I can help!

I’m also looking for kick-ass motivational stories to highlight on this site, like Tyler over at 344 pounds who has lost 120+ lbs. since January, or NF reader Evan who has been staying in shape with Muay Thai boxing.  If you have a story that’s worth telling, I want to hear about it!

New Comments System

For those of you who have been here for a while, you’ll notice I’ve updated the comment operation here.  Now you can now log in and comment via Facebook, Twitter, or just leave a comment as a guest.  You can also reply to individual comments and give thumbs up to the comments you like.

The comments over the past few weeks have been freaking fantastic – we’re having actual discussions without misspelled rants riddled with grammatical errors, which doesn’t happen often on the internet.  Rather than tearing each other down we’re helping each other up – I knew I liked you guys for a reason.  Thanks for the great conversation, and let’s keep it going.

3 Minute Survey

Okay, so rather than winging it and writing stuff I hope you like, I’d rather ask you what you want to read, and then do the research and deliver it to you.  You’re happy, I’m happy, everybody’s happy.  I just want to make sure I’m writing stuff you actually want to read.

NF 3 Minute Survey

If you have three minutes today while you’re working/watching TV shows on Hulu, take the time and let me know what I can do to make this place better.  It’s only like 5 questions, and you don’t even have to answer them all.  Thanks guys.

So Who The Hell Are You?

If you’re new here, this is your time to shine.  Introduce yourself in the comments today, tell your story, what your favorite video game is, and let us know what you’re working on!

-Steve

If you haven’t already done so, download my free E-Book, “A Newbie’s Guide to Fitness,” and If you like what you see, please sign up for the RSS Feed of Nerd Fitness or get NF posts daily via email.

I found you through Art of Manliness as well. I used to be in pretty good shape but after three years of being a nonsmoker married to a great cook I'm not so much.

I love books, really like video games. My all time favorite has to Knights of the Old Republic.

I also like making knives in my spare time (what's that?!) (www.thornhillknifeworks.com).

I really hope to gain a better understanding of fitness, get back in shape, eat better, and not die at age 40 from a heart attack.

    Hey Todd,

Welcome to the blog! Knights of the Old Republic is an amazing game. That
twist in the middle where you find out about your true past was awesome.
I'm really excited to see what Bioware can pull off with their Star Wars
MMORPG. If that game is any good, Nerd Fitness will probably disappear.

Found the blog through Art of Manliness (I think). Started exercising (alternating running for wt loss & stronglifts for strength training) 6x/wk. Favorite video game ... I play the Lego stuff with my kids a lot, but other than that it's a steady diet of anything baseball.

Suggestion for future posts: While I love the celebrity fitness stuff, how about doing a celebrity reverse-fitness post where you examine the diet and non-exercise routine of a celeb who had to "get fat" for a role. (Hanks in Da Vinci comes to mind, but there are doubtless others. I'd love to compare their diet to what we normally eat.

I found your site via Don (a few comments up) I'm sort of a fitness nerd. I'm more geeky about working out than video games, but I have yet to find an incarnation of Mortal Kombat or Virtua Fighter that I haven't loved.
  • Hi. I'm Audrey. I wrote about myself here (http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/10/19/meet...). I, too, love me some video/computer games - Long ago, it was counterstrike. Now, it's Katamari Forever and Uncharted 2. I came across the site hunting for barefoot running information before I dropped $80 on Vibram Five Fingers. I work out twice a week with a personal trainer and twice a week on my own. I love this site - I have the Nerd Fitness Philosophy quotes on the wall of my cubicle.

    Dude,
I actually found you from Tyler's site. I will be reviewing your ebook soon as well.
Anyway, you went DisQus on me? Really? We all know Intense Debate is better. Just kidding man. Keep up the good work!
  • NerdFitness
    Hey Don,

Can't wait to hear what you think of the book. Just took a look at Intense Debate...that also looks sweet. Damn. Maybe I'll try that one out too for a week and then decide.

  • I came across this blog via 344pounds.com, and both blogs were major motivators in me establishing my own blog (http://www.265andfalling.com/), which still kinda sucks right now, but will get better over time as I figure out what the hell I'm doing w/ this whole lifestyle change thing! When I'm not blogging/working out/trying to lose weight, I work in a typical cubicle farm and am also working on my bachelors degree.

Love me some video games, especially old school games. NES and Sega Genesis are my favorite systems, but I certainly have no issue playing newer games as well (newest system I have is a PS2 though)

I do love ALL things Final Fantasy though, new and old, with FFVIII still standing as my all time favorite.

Love the new comment system, btw.

My favorite FF game would have to be FFVI (III here in the states). I was huge into the RPG scene on the Super Nintendo back in the day (secret of Mana, Earthbound(maybe the best game ever), Secret of Evermore, Robotech, FF III, Chronotrigger, etc.).

We still have an old school NES hooked up to our giant TV in my apartment, it's amazing how many of those games still hold up...and how many of them are absolutely terrible.

  • My siblings have a Wii, which has allowed my mom to revisit her obsession with Super Mario Brothers 3. It's funny, and it's little bit better this time around b/c the Wii doesn't crap out if you look at it the wrong way (and we don't get screamed at..as much).

I wish I still had an actual NES, I once prided myself on having the redesigned top loading one (paid alot of money on ebay for it too), but then I had to sell it :( :( :( I currently own about 30 Sega Genesis systems due to a hairbrained idea I once had to start an old school video game store. They've been sitting in my moms attic for about 5 years now and I don't even if any of them still work anymore..ugh.

FFVI was definitely an awesome game, didn't get into it on the SNES, but I have the FFAnthology that came out for the PS1 that had it. Good times.

Every few years or so I go through and play through all the final fantasies.. gotta love the nostalgia. Can't wait for 13!
  • NerdFitness
I think Nintendo needs to bring back the Tanooki suit for future Mario Games. Super Mario Galaxy was pretty badass, but I want me a racoon tail!

  • Picked up your blog on a CrossFit link and I've enjoyed a few of your posts. I do play video games - sell computers too at www.cdw.com. My all time favorite to date is Call of Duty. I'm also a CrossFit fanatic - thegraveyardgang.blogspot.com or welcometothegarthshow.blogspot.com or www.crossfitfire.com

I'm a slacker when it comes to posting or commenting :)
  • NerdFitness
Hey Garth! Ha, glad to hear you've stuck around since the Cross Fit post. Damn that was a fun one. Call of Duty is a pretty badass game. I'm currently playing through GTA IV at the moment.
