The internet connection here has been iffy since yesterday. We get a minute of good wifi, then it stops for 2 minutes, then a minute good again, so I called our provider and they'll send a technician over. In the meantime, I'm mostly online using my phone as a hotspot. They've given me and the missus extra data capacity for this. Whatever works. It did make working from home rather odd. Went for a long walk during TimovieDaughter's football practice to get my steps in for the day, and for Mordor. Food's been going well all week. Except I'm not working out as I should. *Again.* Curfew was actually ok, but I'm still not seeing a big improvement in sleep length, even though I really should. Oh well. Week so far: Week 4 M T W T F S S Intermittent fasting Calorie intake Calories spent Calories in/out deficit Curfew Sleep Avg. sleep 5h57 Steps Avg. steps 10.96K Distance 16.27 km Workouts 0.0 Days with (mini-)workouts 0 Here's something that doesn't happen very often. I got a song recommended to me by my mom. One she's heard on the radio several times and really likes. I love the artist, but didn't know he'd released a new song. It's like his first in 30 years or so. It never plays on the radio station I most often listen to, and it doesn't play on the one Mrs. Movieman listens to, so I was completely oblivious to this song. So thanks for the recommendation, Mom! This is Billy Joel's first song in decades, and it sounds like one he made in his prime. I also love the video. The de-aging to show him throughout the years is done well, and the use of AI to make him sound more like his younger self, adds to the trip down memory lane. And he kept a verse with his current older voice. But man, what a song again! Billy Joel - Turn the Lights Back On -
Good to hear that you are feeling better. It is such a good feeling to get rid of old junk. My grandma had a drawer full of sugar packets from places she travelled. Apparently it used to be a thing to have local images on sugar packets, at least in Europe. I understand wanting small souvenirs, but sugar packets? Those were an easy decision to get rid of. Getting outside and away from your grandma sounds like a good option for both your physical and mental health. If you feel the need to add another reason, could you walk to run errands?

Oh my goodness, that was a saga and a half to read through! I am so so sorry you had to deal with the Houseguest Hellian for so long. That is completely and utterly unfair. May the rest of your time with Dave be peaceful and restorative for you both. Hugs and my hat is off to you my friend. You handled that like a champion. I'd have snapped, probably at HH and partner, but neither would have been right. You are an inspiration for how effective communication and empathy should work in a relationship.

It’s not super comfortable but I really enjoy mammogram days. Back in the waiting room everyone just reads a book and they’re friendly if you’re new or look scared, otherwise it’s just “hi!” And back to their books -
My goodness, things move fast in your life. It may not seem that way to you, but a lot has happened in the last week. I am in awe of your dice. I thought Dumbledore had an extravagant collection. Yours is magnificent. 🌟 Is this keep solely a military outpost, or is it a feudal holding with agricultural lands around it? If it has feudal control of the countryside, you can offer the superintendent a share of the profit from managing the people and resources. They will also have to manage the staff of the keep. This is the same situation feudal lords had to deal with when they went off to the wars. I am sure you can find culturally appropriate stories for inspiration. I am so glad this is all working out. And that it is almost over. Yay! Good sleep makes everything else in life sooooooooooo much easier. Yep, that seems to be the consensus for this challenge. Holding ground is a fine place to be. Sometimes strategic retreat to a better location is really the best course of action. We want to believe we can move forward consistently, but that is an occasional happy condition, not the norm.

From what I've seen of these forums, challenges vary quite a bit from person to person and from challenge to challenge. I've seen challenges where the goal is just to show up and post, ones where the goals aren't ever mentioned because writing them down will make them not happen, ones where there are no goals and the thread is just a place to hang out, ones where there are no overall challenge goals, just a list of things to do that's developed every day as things come up, and many more variations. If this challenge isn't working for you, it's okay to try something that looks different. If your thread doesn't have any goals and is more like a journal of what's going on in your life, or a bunch of pictures, or songs you enjoy (or if you start out posting one sort of thing and that changes over time), that's fine. We'll just be happy you're here. -
I love the swimming tracker!! Okay, okay, so I just tend to love a tracker in general. I'm a nut for spreadsheets 😆 But I do think that sounds like fun and hope you get to earn that first prize soon!! The Happiness Trap book sounds really interesting too. It's not one I'm familiar with, but it sounds like it could be talking about some issues my cousins and I have run into (basically getting constantly distracted by thinking there must be an option out there that will make us "happier" than we are now, to the point where it's tough to just pick something and commit to it even when it turns out to be imperfect because, duh, that's how real life works). Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!

The desk is still cluttered and all the good habits I had established in the last challenge (slow carb diet, not getting wasted daily, getting almost-enough sleep) went out the window shortly after I made the original post 🙄 I...don't know why this always happens. It's like the moment I give myself a goal, even if it's something easy and/or that I am ALREADY DOING, then some subconscious part of my brain is like NOW I'M GOING TO DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE LOL. It's frustrating. I actually enjoy posting on these forums, but ghosted due to having practically /shamequit. I know that NF Steve often says that we never start over from square one because each failed attempt gives us more experience. So far it seems that the only "experience" I've gained from all these failed attempts (and I'm batting 100% when it comes to failing at these challenges) is that goals don't work and that challenges don't work. So...I don't really know what to do anymore. I don't want to just quit these forums because I like it here. I enjoy how quiet it is on the NF forums, and how these forums don't have ads or a fucking algorithm deciding what I get to read. Eh. If I can unclutter the desk before leaving for my trip (April 22) then I'll count that as a win. Then maybe I can just copy/paste my original post into a new thread when it's time for the next challenge, because apparently I don't learn from my failures.
