Leaving The Shire
In 2012, the end of the world was coming. Mild-mannered high school classroom aid is unhappy with his life.
He quits his job and chooses to go back to school for environmental hydrogeology, which mixes his love of earth science with his passion of environmental concerns.
Skip ahead to June of 2014, here we are at 391.4 pounds. Basic life things become difficult; walking, stairs, working, anything.
Now fast-forward to 2015. MF Man has lost 81.2 lbs. Hurray, the world is saved, he's learned how to do things to keep him active, he drinks all the water he needs in a day, he is conscious of his calories.
However, in late December of 2015, he discovered that he was having some tingly feelings in his right arm and leg after MCing a variety show. Rest and stretching helps, but in late February, 2016 it progressed so that he was struggling to walk and do simple things like shower.
In Late March, 2016 his doctor did an x-ray, no problems there, then he asked for a blood test. "Sure, no problem, I have some extra" said Johnny. We are still moving forward on the diagnosis for what is causing the pain and tingling.
Blood tests came back, with high a1c and cholesterol numbers. "No surprise there, he hasn’t been treating myself very well for the last few decades." Johnny made a vow to keep on losing weight and being, truthfully, fucking awesome.
So while he was being treated for a nerve disorder, we discover that he is diabetic.
Big life changes coming around, understood. Let's say you go in for a broken arm from playing hacky-sack, and the doctor finds out that you have a life changing disease...lupus for instance.
Talk about kicking someone while they are down...right?
So there is his origin story. All of this is super brand new to him, but he has a lot of confidence in a future as a diabetic. A pill in the morning, walk more, eat better, and control this thing. Three months later I have cut my a1c down from 9.4 to 5.4.
With balance and pain issues, he can’t work out the way he was used to. Instead he has begun to learn Tai chi, thus the change over into the Druid Class.
Character update, August 9th, 2016 I am diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As of July, 2017 I have gained 36 lbs since that diagnosis. I'm trying to keep active, but many of my symptoms keep me down.
So here we go again. I am going to start with one step, then two, then three, and so on. I made it to Weathertop, but now I need to rest and regroup.
