My Story
"Impossible is just a word to make people feel better when they give up"
I once lived a humble existence as a pharmaceutical office worker. Not particularly excited about my job or life, I dutifully put in the hours at work before returning home and losing myself in video games, books, and TV. Adventure stories always spoke to me the most. I imagined myself in those stories, thinking I might be a hero if I just had the right set of circumstances. I didn't get it yet that creating those circumstances was on me.
I heard the call to adventure when I came across a book called “Born to Run”. Something about it awakened a fire in me to do something awesome. “Maybe I could do this”, I thought. “I used to run in high school. Maybe I'll get back into it go for a half-marathon”. So I set off to do it.
While training, I found two blogs that would change the way thought. Nerd Fitness and Art of Manliness. I learned about strength training, proper eating, and how valuable strength is. I also started to believe that my adulthood could – contrary to popular belief – be even better than my teen and college years. If I was deliberate about it. I finished the half-marathon – which remains one of my proudest accomplishments – but chose afterward to use strength training as my primary exercise.
Since the half-marathon, I've grown much stronger both physically and mentally. I've become much more disciplined, lowered my body fat, put on visible muscle, began training in a Martial Art, and attended Camp Nerd Fitness! Today, I still work at that pharmaceutical office job by day (which I'm working to change), but by night – as The Blue Rogue – I strength train, learn new things, and go on adventures (like Swing Dancing, Martial arts, and occasionally dipping my toes in Parkour!)
There is still so much more that I want to accomplish (see Epic Quest list), and I'm excited to work towards it. So: Let's do it to it.
