The biggest reason I turn to junk/fast food is because I haven't washed the necessary dishes from the night before. This quest will incentivize this habit so that it does not become a stumbling block to my diet.

My Story

I'm just going to post my progress reports here for now and work on a story later.

4/17/16 - Most of my progress is happening at Habitica. I realized the need to work on more than just fitness, and the challenges there have already helped me read more, keep the house cleaner, and begin learning a new language.

4/12/16 - I completed level one today, so now it gets a little tougher. I'm cutting the points for avoiding sugar drinks in half. By level 3, I will eliminate points for this activity. I still want to offer the same points for poi as before, because I feel like I won't be as likely to reach for that activity if it's not worth as much. I do want to find a way to encourage myself to get out and walk more, so I may implement not just an amount of time walked, but maybe higher points for the first time I walk a new route. If I know that it's not going to be the same old routine, and that I can actually get more XP for doing it one way as opposed to another, I will be more likely to get out and do it.

4/11/16 - I'm pretty disappointed in my progress this week. Lots of meat, lots of junk food. I had a dentist appointment that is going to throw off any chance of me saving money, and now I have a sick kitty that's stressing me out. I can't do my go-to exercise while the training crate is setup in the middle of the room, so I need to choose a different workout or she needs to get better. My week of shame threatens to bring my progress back to 10 pounds instead of 15. I must do better.

4/5/16 - It's still easy for me to stay away from sugar drinks. I do this twice as often as I avoid meat. Once I hit level 2, I'm going to reduce the points earned for drinks. We'll try 1/day and see how that goes. I'm not unhappy with cutting out meat. I have many recipes that I absolutely love, but the problem I face is when I don't feel like cooking. I have sandwiches, which include some kind of meat, even if it's just tuna. And we have the weekly ritual of eating breakfast burritos, which have bacon. Perhaps I should leave the bacon out. It's such a small part of the meal, it seems silly to waste a whole day's effort on a sprinkling of bacon. Points for meat will stay the same until I can double the results.

It's been hard for me to avoid candy, because of the post-Easter sales, and I've found that my go-to substitute is quite high in sugar also. I need to find something that will satisfy my sweet craving, but not A) contain just as much sugar as the damn candy and B) give me the squirts (I'm sure I could find sweet things with sugar substitutes, but that stuff goes right through me). Points will remain the same on that.

I'm hovering at the 15 pounds I lost, because I binged on candy and white rice this week. I knew the first 10 would be easy, and I planned to take 6 months to lose 30, so this plateau was expected. Even though I've been keeping below my calorie guideline and working out more than ever, I'm going to need to focus my efforts on meals at home and set a schedule for walking like I planned in the beginning.
