Speaking Engagements

Steve Kamb is a nerd.

He’s known this for a while. Specifically, five years ago when his homemade computer’s motherboard fried while playing Everquest due to overuse. True story.

And, there are a lot of nerds out there. A lot of unhealthy nerds. Steve’s mission is to help them. For the past four years, Steve has led Nerd Fitness, an online community of over 85,000 subscribers and 1 million monthly visitors seeking to combat the sedentary, junk food laden lifestyle so regularly adopted by their peers. Steve wants to steer them away from the obesity, mood swing and thrombosis that plague so many who sit in front of computers all day.

The thing with nerds is that they tend to be scared of the gym. There’s always another program to learn, another game to master, another another bug to fix. There’s always another Mountain Dew in the fridge. Health is not something nerds – or even average joes – make time for.

In the past Steve has presented at Google, Google Europe, Facebook, TEDx Emory, and Vanderbilt University, as well as on radio stations across the country.  He most recently presented at Chris Guillebeau’s World Domination Summitt in Portland, OR.

Steve’s main focus for his talks is on treating life like a video game, learning how to eat better and exercise by applying the same tactics that make game so enjoyable and addicting. Perfect for gamers, people in IT and others who would otherwise sit in front of a computer all day drinking Red Bull.

You can view Steve’s talk at Google in San Francisco in its entirety here:

And his TEDx Talk:

Steve has also been interviewed on radio stations across the country, including CBS Radio in Seattle and KSL Radio in St Lake City, Utah.  I’ve been featured on websites such as Gizmodo (the #2 How-To Article of 2010), TheNextWeb, Art of Manliness, and CopyBlogger.

Testimonials

As part of Google’s wellness efforts, we were seeking individuals who could come and present to our employees on varying perspectives related to physical, emotional, and financial health. As part of that as well as a fan of Nerd Fitness, I contacted Steve to see if he’d be willing to not only present in-person but also over video conference all while being recorded to be posted publicly on YouTube.

Steve was an excellent communicator with a clear passion for trying to help motivate people to take a step each day toward getting fit. He kept the audience interested, engaged, and enthused throughout his whole presentation. We liked him so much and felt that his message resonated with so many of our employees that we also asked him to speak in our offices in Europe as well. -Shana Sweeney, Google San Francisco

“We had Steve in to give the final keynote at our conference and he nailed it. It was the perfect mix of inspiration, humor, and practical wisdom. On stage he came across as humble, passionate, and knowledgable, which is impossible to pull off if you’re not being authentic and shooting from the heart. Would have him back in a heartbeat.” – Bryan Allain, Host of the Killer Tribes Conference.
