About
Hi. My name is Steve, and I’m kind of a huge nerd.
This is me after finishing the Warrior Dash, where we managed to raise enough money to send half a dozen kids with cancer to Camp Sunshine. To read about the race and our kick-ass fundraiser, check out NerdDash.com for more details.
I’m the rebel leader here at Nerd Fitness, helping fellow nerds, desk jockeys, and average Joes level up their lives while still doing the stuff they love. In June of 2010, I made the incredibly tough decision to quit my dream job to dedicate 100% of my efforts on this website and the Nerd Fitness community.
I’ve pretty much been a nerd my entire life, and I’ve always had some interest in this whole fitness thing – I went as Superman for Halloween for 5 years straight (undies on the outside!) because I wanted to be strong…and wear a cape – but it wasn’t until a few years back that I finally decided to do something about it.
I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m NOT a fitness expert (my college degree was in Economics!), I just happen to be a guy who used to be really skinny that wants to level up his life and help others do the same. I’ll leave the professional stuff to my fitness Yodas:
- Craig Ballantyne
- Jason Ferruggia
- Jason Varley of Corebody.net
- Alwyn Cosgrove
- Mike Rickett
After reading all of the crap information out there on the Internet, I decided to create a unique site that combined my two passions:
- Nerdly pursuits – Star Wars, the Matrix, Lord of the Rings, video games, books, computers, gadgets, etc. I love it all.
- Helping people – Once you cut through all the bullsh**, getting in shape isn’t as complicated as it seems. It’s actually a ridiculous amount of fun, and can completely turn your life around. Never underestimate the power of momentum.

I encourage you to join our community, the Nerd Fitness Rebel Army. We’re rebelling against poor conventional wisdom that got us where we are today, we’re rebelling against nerd stereotypes that don’t need to be true, and we’re rebelling against a life without passion. We’re sticking it to “the man.”
I realize this sounds super cheesy, but I’d love for you to join the rebellion and help us turn things around. Here are the best ways to connect with me:
- Sign up for the Rebel Army Newsletter or subscribe via RSS Feed.
- Join us on the Nerd Fitness Message Boards – 350+ rebel soldiers and growing daily.
- Be a fan of Nerd Fitness on Facebook – even my mom is a fan, so you KNOW it’s cool.
- Follow me on Twitter - I dish out daily doses of rebel wisdom along with links to cool stuff I find on the Internet. You never know what you’re going to get!
- Subscribe to the Nerd Fitness YouTube Channel - Any day now I expect to be picked up for my own show on G4, but until then…watch me be an idiot on YouTube! You might even learn something.
I’d love to hear your story – email me at Steve@NerdFitness.com and let me know if I can help in any way.

Here are some random facts about me:
- Favorite movie: The Shawshank Redemption. This is the greatest movie ever made in my opinion, right behind Spice World and Glitter.
- Favorite TV show: Can’t narrow this one down. Lost, the Wire, the Shield, Friday Night Lights, Ninja Warrior, and Arrested Development are the ones that usually rise to the top.
- Favorite song ever: “If it’s the Beaches,” by the Avett Brothers.
- Desired super power: Flight, duh. Why do you think I went as Superman for Halloween for half a decade and jumped off my roof holding an inflated trash bag? Because I’m an idiot mostly, but also because I’ve always wanted to fly.
- Favorite food: Chicken parm – pasta, sauce, cheese, and chicken. Terribly unhealthy and it does a number on my stomach. Still though, win.
- Favorite game: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - just epic all around. Although the graphics don’t hold up too well by today’s standards, the gameplay and story is second to none. The rest of my top five would be Metroid Prime for the GameCube, Super Metroid for the SNES, BioShock for the Xbox, and Everquest 2 for the PC. MMORPG’s are my Kryptonite.
- Favorite book: Other than the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter books (yup, read em all – don’t hate), I’m going to go with the Giver.
- Talents/hobbies: Let’s see…I’m a decent piano player, less-than-decent guitarist, “not awful” break dancer, kinda okay surfer, respectable artist, pretty good golfer, dismal singer, terrible cook, and a Ninja Warrior in training.
- Claim to fame: I once organized thirteen people to spell the last name of Vanderbilt’s Polish center, Dawid Przybyszewski, across our chests. He checked into the game, we ripped off our shirts, and he had the game of his career while leading Vandy to victory over Kentucky. He started every game after that. Here’s the picture, I’m the P.
- Hometown: East Sandwich, MA. Yes I’m serious. That’s actually a town name. It’s on the bicep of Cape Cod. Shut up.
