My Epic Quest

I am currently: Level 13 (60% towards Level 14)

Most Recent Mission: Play Golf at St. Andrews in Scotland

Welcome to my Epic Quest of Awesome!

I’m traveling all over the world, going on crazy adventures, and helping other people level up THEIR lives along the way.  Curious about where I’ve been?  This video will help:

Every time I cross something off of my bucket list, I gain 20% experience towards my next “level.” Thanks to some lucrative credit card deals and frequent flyer offers (all learned from Chris Guillebeau’s Frequent Flyer Master), I have over a million airline miles (not an exaggeration) and I’m using them to see the world.  I’ll be meeting up with Nerd Fitness readers and using any travel-hacking skills I’ve acquired to accomplish this quest without breaking the bank.

I’ve flown 35,000 miles for $418, traveled an additional 150,000 miles all around the world, and lived like James Bond in Monaco using these tactics.

Steve’s Epic Quest of Awesome

Here are the things I hope to accomplish over the next few years – it’s a work in progress and subject to change based on future circumstances. Nerd Fitness is a community, and I want to help others do cool things too. If I’m coming to your neck of the woods and you want to meet up or join me on an adventure, please let me know so we can meet up!

I can’t wait to hear your suggestions on what to add to the Epic Quest.

Just don’t get me killed, okay?

My mom would be PISSED.

  1. I just started following Nerd Fitness and I’d like to extend an invitation to you to come visit me in Morocco to cross off the camel trek in the Sahara quest. Marhaba bik – You are welcome!

  2. Take a dip in the atlantic and pacific oceans both on the same day in Panama!

  3. I’ve been planning a trip to europe for quit sometime now and have been debating wether or not i should plan a trip or just dedicate my life to traveling. Stumbling upon your site and seeing how much you’ve accomplished has really helped me make up my mind and decide to just go for it! Thank you so much!

  4. Here’s a challenge I hope to do someday.

1.Hike the Appalachian trail from Maine to Georgia

  5. Well if you are going to go all the way to St Andrews, you should definitely come to Edinburgh Steve. I live there and it is a beautiful city.

  6. I love these!! Being a Taekwondo instructor, I too would love to learn Krav Maga and obtain a conceal weapon license. My husband and I talked about joining Krav Maga class together and he will help me get a license. Your Epic Quest of Awesome makes me want to make myself (including my husband) a page for our Epic Quest as well.

  7. I am stealing this idea! I’m making a notebook in Evernote (which I discovered thanks to this site) to track my goals and progress! Thanks for the motivation.

  8. Im adding some of these to my own personal list, which works differently than yours, but I’m thinking of adjusting mine to be a bit more like yours as the leveling system makes it seem like you’re accomplishing more, and some of these are major things but they can just seem like a crossed out item on a list without something to convey their importance more.
Currently I have an A3 sheet of paper and a list, every time i finish something I put it on the paper, bigger means I thought it was worth it. My aim is to fill the paper.
Right now I have 1 corner finished but hey, I’m still not legally allowed to drink alcohol so i think i’m doing good.
I might add in levels in a way, maybe draw lines on the page and every time I have to cross one to fit something in I level up.

  9. You should add the biggest one on my list, I’ve adjusted my own way of doing it (see my other comment) because I like the way you set it out.
Anyway, the biggest one on my list (which I haven’t done yet, as it’s ‘Not a priority’, also I’m stil in school and that is a priority) is to bike (bicycle is my plan but whatever suits you) around your home country and (hopefully) visit every capital city in it.

  10. I see you want to come to south africa, well buddy come on by and cross a few things off your list!

  11. I love how you added watching the Red Sox win the World Series AFTER you’d already done it. Anybody can “level” themselves when doing it in hindsight.

  12. Thank you, Steve, for your inspiring Quest. I now have my own level-up list, and my wife and I completed my first mission this past weekend – swimming with whale sharks. My wife would also like to thank you. To make this happen, I spontaneously booked us a trip to Mexico – our first real vacation together since we had kids – and put it all together. We promised ourselves we would make this a regular thing and not wait six years again. Looking forward to hearing more about your quest, and to completing more of mine. Thanks.

  13. If you manage to go to Finland, you should definitely check out Estonia as well. It’s right next to Finland and the forests are amazing here

  14. Steve! You should visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia and take pictures near the largest clock in the world!
I think that would be the best experience ever!

  15. Woah this is pretty inspiring. I think I’ll actually make one of these lists tonight.

Anyway, a few suggestions based on some things I have done:

Climb a few Fourteeners in Colorado?
Climb Mt. Fuji (sunrise is optional)
Helicopter tour over a volcano or a glacier
    Get a Masters degree
    Get a large meaningful tattoo

    and a few things I haven’t done:

    Brew your own beer
    Build your own house
    Paint a self-portrait

    Thanks man!

  16. L2z5 Recently I used to be REALLY low on $$ and debits were eating me from everywhere! that was RIGHT UNTIL i found out how to earn money.. on the Internet. I visited surveymoneymaker period net, and started doing surveys for cash, and yes i have been much more able to do my things! I’m very glad that i did this!!! Ze2B

  17. Let me know when you go for that bagpipe lesson in Scotland–I’d love to go with you!

  18. You have to ride a bike (bicycle) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. And visit the Anne Frank house or the Rembrandt house or go watch some monkey in the zoo or do them all. Maybe if your open minded, take a joint with some students 😉 Good luck with leveling up!!

  19. You already have riding the trans-siberian railroad on your list, so don’t forget to visit Lake Baikal. It’s totally worth it, believe me. I don’t travel much, but some places that I’ve been to on Baikal are just incredibly beautiful.

  20. I’d love to exercise with you in front of St Basil’s (I currently live in Moscow)!! I’m also saving up for an epic quest to Antarctica. No lie, if you want a questing buddy there, hit me up! I’m aiming for Christmas/New Year’s 2015/16 🙂
